In the first session of Application Software civic engagement, representatives from Seguin/Texas workforce, Seguin library, TLU librarian, and Mr. Tim Barr, the Director for Center for Servant Leadership discussed the concept of the digital divide.

Some of the classmates were fortune enough to engage with the community members to help them with their struggles on the computers. Afterward, all the classmates participated in a discussion and presentation session. With this civic engagement competency , we are actively addressing computer literacy needs of the community members.

After the civic engagement classes, it was clear to see the digital divide and the needs of the community members. From Google, to opening a new folder, the community needed our help with these tasks. For some, this class was the first time they were working on laptops instead of the 90’s windows monitors. I also helped out with learning how to adjust settings on the email.

Through this competency, I was able to meet some interesting Seguin characters and help them with their struggle to understand this growing technology. It was clear to see after the first class, the word was being spread because the next class we had even more community members participate.
